Sunday, December 13, 2009 - Around 0600 hrs Engine Co 20, RS0, A209, and Co19 (BVAR19) were alerted for the vehicle accident on RT340 East bound at Gene Hemp Rd. Crews went on scene with single vehicle accident rollover. Two patients where transported to FMH and units cleared shortly after.
At 0930 hrs Engine Co 20 was alerted again to assist Brunswick for another accident on RT340 east bound @ RT17 with 2 trapped. ET204 went on scene at RT340 and RT180 which is where the accident really was located with single vehicle on its side. RS20 was then alerted to assist. Crews from 20, 5 and 19 assisted with getting patients out of the vehicle. Four total patients were transported to FMH.
RS20 was diverted to another accident in Brunswick on Jefferson Pike involving 2 state highway salt trucks. Due to the bridge being out and the hill being icy on the east side of Jefferson Pike Chief 5-2 had units come in on the west side and walk to the accident. Chief 5-2, RS20, LCE616, JCA1, and M100 made access to the patients. One patient had Decreased level of consciousness and the other was walking wounded. One patient was back boarded and wheeled out to awaiting A198 and taken to Washington County Trauma Center. The other patient sat in LCE616 and waited for JCA1 to arrive on scene and was transported to FMH. All units cleared and return to service.
Units from 20 had just returned to quarters when they were alerted yet once again for another vehicle accident at RT340 and RT180 with reported 8 patients and 6 trapped. Units from 20 went on scene with a single vehicle (conversion van) in the ditch with 8 occupants still inside. After stabilizing and gaining access to the patients we found that all patients but 3 where not injured. Crews assisted the ones not injured out the back doors while RS20 and ET204 preformed a door pop on the front passenger door to get the patient out. Crews from Co20, 5, 19, and 12 triage all patients and loaded them into awaiting ambulances all four ambulances transported to FMH.
