About Us

Little is known about the early years of the Jefferson Fire Company. In 1901, two hand-drawn Badger units were purchased. These were pressurized much like the fire extinguishers of today. One of those units has been restored as a parade piece. In 1954, a nucleus of men from Jefferson went to Braddock Heights for training which would qualify them as firefighters. In 1955, Braddock Heights purchased an International Pumper and, with their help, established a substation in Jefferson called the "Jefferson Station of Braddock Heights Fire Company.

In 1968, Braddock Heights purchased a 1948 Ford Pumper and placed it in the Jefferson station. In June 1970, the membership of Jefferson decided to break from Braddock Heights and form what is now known as the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. In 2003, the company expanded the building due to increasing volunteer needs and the arrival of 3 DFRS employees, two firefighters, and one medic. As of 2006, Jefferson runs six pieces of apparatus: Engine 201, Engine/Tanker 204, Squad 20, Brush 205, Ambulance 209, and Medic 20. There are approximately 160 members in the Jefferson Vol Fire Company including: 30 firefighters, two captains, two lieutenant, one deputy chief, one assistant chief, and one chief. The company serves the small but growing community of Jefferson
