Company 20 responds on motorcycle accident on Holter Rd

Around 1730 hrs A209, M20, RS20, E201, and EMS901 were alerted for a motorcycle accident in the area of Holter Rd and Cherry Lane. While en route ECC added RE74 and A78 with a location update in the area of Jumbos Pumpkin Patch. Units went on scene at the S turns before Jumbos with a motorcyclist down in the field. A209 and M20 assessed the patient and requested a helicopter but due to another accident in New Midway the helicopter had a 20 minute ETA. Medic 209 ended up transporting by ground to Washington County Hospital. Units cleared.


 
   
   
Co. 20 assists on fatal vehicle accident on Rt 340 at Rt 17
Saturday, August 28, 2010

Around 0640 hrs Co. 5, 19, Rescue Squad 19, Ambulance 209, and Medic 20 were alerted for a vehicle accident with reported entrapment on Rt340 in the area of Rt17. Engine 201 added onto because all incidents on Rt 340 should be dual dispatched with an east bound and west bound assignment. Ambulance 209 arrived on scene first and reported the accident was on Rt 340 west bound just east of Rt 17 involving 2 vehicles. After 209 sized up the scene Chief 5 went on scene and established Rt 340 Command with 1 priority 4 patient and another category A trauma and requested a helicopter. M20 arrived and advised Command to place helicopter in service Amb. 209 would be transporting by ground to Washington County Hospital. Engine 201 went in service. Brunswick's units remained on scene and awaited the crash investigation team.

The first call was at 1227 am for Ambulance 209 to assist Company 14 with a vehicle accident in the 4300 block of Ballenger Creek Pike.

Second call was around 0730 am for wires down on Lander Road and Sunrise Dr. Company 20 assisted Company 28 with this call.

Third call came in around 1040 am for Ambulance 209 and Medic 20 to assist Brunswick Amb. Co. with Decreased Level of Consciousness on Potomac Street in downtown Brunswick.

Fourth call was around 1215 pm to assist Co. 14/28 with a vehicle accident on Ballenger Creek Pike and Manor Woods Rd. Ambulance 209, Medic 20, and Engine 201 responded.

Fifth and final call for the day was at 1300 hrs for a motorcycle accident in the 5800 block of Elemer Derr Rd. Ambulance 209, Medic 20, Rescue Squad 20 and Engine 201 responded.

Around 1300 hrs Companies 12, 20, 7, Rescue Squad 20, Truck 41, Truck 50, Engine Tanker 204, Tankers 7 and1 were alerted for the house fire in the area of 5600 blk of Stone Road. Duty 12 arrived and advised a working fire and established Stone Road Command. E122 crew advanced an 1 3/4" hose line inside to find fire in the kitchen and living room. E72 arrived and set up for rural water supply operations while the crew from 72 advanced a back up line to check for extension on the second floor. Battalion 901 arrived assumed Stone Road Command and requested the tanker task force and the RIT dispatch. Crews made quick work of the fire. Fire was brought under control but unfortunately the fire claimed multiple dogs lives. Crews cleared few hours later.


 
Company 20 assists on Box 5-3 for the house fire with fire visible

Around 0400hrs Frederick County ECC dropped the tones on Box 5-3 for the house fire on Carlisle Dr. Units marked up responding and ECC advised that caller stated they woke up to the smoke alarm and went downstairs to find fire in their living room and evacuated. Amb. 198 and Chief 5-1 arrived with smoke showing side alpha and assumed Carlisle Dr. Command. After preforming a walk around Chief 5-1 advised side Charlie was clear and that he had a single story house with a walk out basement with smoke showing from side alpha. Engine 201 arrived and advanced an 1 3/4" line through the front door to find heavy smoke conditions inside. 201's crew found the fire in the living room and made an aggressive attack containing the fire to the room of origin. Engine Tanker 204 arrived and assisted with opening windows for ventilation and opening the walls to check for hot spots. Salvage and overhaul was complete and units from Co. 20 returned to service. Engine 51 and Chief 5-1 remained on scene while the Fire Marshals investigated. Investigation revealed that the fire was accidental, there where combustible materials to close to the base board heater.

Jefferson assist with serious MVA with multiple ejected

Around 2330 hrs Frederick County ECC alerted Co. 12, Rescue Engine 74, Medic 20 and the EMS Duty Officer for a vehicle accident in the area of Maryland Ave and Old National Pike (RT40). Before units responded ECC added 2 additional Ambulances, and 2 additional Medics with reports of multiple patients ejected. Chief 12 arrived with 3 serious patients in the roadway no entrapment. Company 20 was alerted to assist with manpower on the call. Engine 201 and Rescue Squad 20 responded. 2 helicopters where requested. In all 2 patients where flown to Shock Trauma one by Trooper 3 and the other by Life Star. A third patient was transported by ground to Washington County Hospital Center.

Bunkhouse detroyed by fire at Mar Lu Ridge Camp Center

Around 1800 hrs Company 20 was alerted for an outside investigation of an unknown type fire at the Mar Lu Ridge Camp Center off Mountville Rd. Engine 201, Brush 205 and Chief 20 responded. Chief 20 arrived on scene and found a bunkhouse that had been completely destroyed by fire and a 40 x 40 brush fire. Chief 20 requested an additional brush truck and Fire Marshall to the scene. Engine 201 staged its unit on the hard road and had Brush 205 and Brush 145 drive down the trail to the scene. Units extinguished the fire and assisted the Fire Marshall with his investigation. No one around at the time of the fire but it was determined that an unattended camp fire caused a brush fire that spread into the bunkhouse. Units went in service around 2000 hrs.


 
Engine 201 on 3 alarmer in Urbana

Around 2200hrs units where dispatched for the 23 Box on Winthrop Ln for the reported townhouse fire. Units from Co 23 went on scene with heavy fire on side charlie of multiple townhouses and requested the 2nd alarm. Around 2215 hrs Co. 20 was alerted to transfer one engine to Urbana Vol. Fire Co. 23. Engine 201 marked up en route. While en route Engine 201 was dispatched on the 3rd alarm, Engine 201 responded from Interstate 270 and RT80. Engine 201 arrived on scene and awaited an assignment at the Command Post. Crew from Engine 201 assisted with salvage, overhaul and extinguishing hot spots. 4 out of the 5 townhouses where affected by the fire. Engine  201 went in service around 2:30 am.

Vehicle fire on Rt340 WB at Mt Zion Rd

Around 1900hrs A209, A38, Co20 and 3 were alerted for a vehicle fire on RT340 WB at Mt Zion Rd. ET204, A209, and Chief 20 marked up and ECC advised M20 was on scene  RT340 WB just west of Mt Zion with a pick up truck that had a small fire in the engine compartment. ET204 went on scene and placed Co 3 units in service and shut down the slow lane on RT340. Crew advanced 1 3/4" bumper line and used a haligon bar to gain access to the engine compartment. Fire was knocked quickly and contained to the engine compartment. State Police arrived and Co 20 units cleared.


 
Rescue Squad 20 dispatched on 2 entrapments with in 3 hours

The morning started around 0500hrs when A209, M20, RS20, Co 20, and EMS901 were alerted for a vehicle accident with roll over on RT340 EB Between Gene Hemp and Horine Rd. A209 went on scene with single vehicle on its side in the median with 2 occupants still inside. RS20 arrived and started stabilizing the car for extrication. Once stabilized crews went to work removing the roof of the car to gain access to the patients. EMS901 arrived and assumed RT340 Command and requested another Ambulance and Medic Unit. Extrication was complete and crews had a total of 3 patients for transport to FMH priority 3.

Then around 0830hrs A129, M20, Co 12, RS20, and EMS900 were alerted for another accident with entrapment on Jefferson Blvd. FM300 was in the area and added onto the call. A129 and FM300 went on scene with single box truck into a tree with one patient still inside. FM300 established Blvd. Command and requested Trooper 3 and another engine company for the landing zone. Engine Company 7 handled the landing zone a Braddock Heights Fire Station. RS20 arrived and removed the door to the truck to gain access to the patient. Patient was loaded into M129 Jefferson and transported to the landing zone where the patient was flown to the Trauma Center due to his injuries. Crews packed up and returned to service.

Co 20 units respond for one trapped on Cap Stien Rd

Units from CO 20 were alerted for a PI with possible entrapment on Cap Stien Rd. Units went on the scene with one SUV into a tree with no entrapment. A209 evaluated one patient and units returned to service.


 
   
   
Vehicle accident invloving vegetable oil closes 340 EB for hours

Around 1444 hrs A209, A38, M20, RS20, Co 20 and 3 where  alerted for the vehicle accident on Rt 340 EB between Rt 15 and Mt Zion Rd. A209 and M20 where first to arrive with single pick up truck hauling a trailer with multiple tanks of used vegetable oil. Four of the tanks where thrown from the trailer and 3 where leaking into the roadway. RS20, ET204, E31 and RS3 arrived and began to put absorbent down to collect and prevent the oil from going off the shoulder and getting into a near by stream that runs along Elmer Derr Rd. One tank had hole in the side and the others where leaking from the tops around the lids. RS3's crew plugged the hole successfully and stopped the major leak. MDE was notified of the spill. Crews also had to mitigate the diesel fuel that leaked from the pick up trucks gas tank. The company owner arrived to the scene with a vacuum truck to load the leaking tanks oil. The soiled absorbent was bagged up and the SHA used a sand truck spread sand in the area to absorb the rest of the vegetable oil and add traction for drivers. Units cleared couple hours later.

Engine 201 assist on 3 alarm building fire in the city

Around 1930 hrs Box 3-3 was sounded for the building fire in the area of East All Saints Street and South Carroll Street. Units from United arrived quickly and reported a working building fire and requested the Safety Task Force. Crews from the city companies attempted and interior fire attack for about 10-20 mins with little success. Due to the heavy fire conditions inside Command requested the evac tones to be sounded and switched to defensive operations. Soon after Evac tones where dropped a 2nd alarm was sounded which brought E201 from Jefferson to the scene. Units on the second alarm staged their units about a block from the incident and sent their manpower to the Command Post. A 3rd alarm was then requested for more additional man power to assist on containing the blaze. Units operated on scene for several hours into the night before heading home.

Protocol roll out class

To all company EMS providers do not forget to have your protocol roll out class done by tomorrow June 30th. Please log onto www.miemss.org. Once you log on go to the online training center link under the on line services column to the right side of the page. At the top right hand side of the page there is a log in, use your EMS ID number as your user name and your birth date as your password, the birth date must be typed in the format of mmddyyyy. It must be completed by the June 30th.
